My favorite place on earth:
Bellows Beach, Oahu. My father taught me to bodysurf there, and I go back to Hawaii and to bodysurf at Bellows every chance I get. Here’s a photo of me and Dad the summer I turned nine, at Bellows.

Cats or Dogs? Both! I love all animals. I have cats now, and hope to get a dog soon. I’d have horses and goats and pigs if i could.

Most influential books? I refuse to choose just a few. I started “reading” when my Dad put me on his knee when I was weeks old and read me the newspaper. From there my favorites were the Narnia books by C.S. Lewis, CHARLOTTE’S WEB by E.B. White, HALF MAGIC and its sequels from Edward Eager, and THE HOBBIT by J.R.R. Tolkein. I also loved history and ate up THE LOST QUEEN OF EGYPT by Lucille Morrison, MARA, DAUGHTER OF THE NILE by Eloise Jarvis McGraw, and all six of the Lymond Chronicles by Dorothy Dunnett. I think I read every book on Ancient Egypt the Manoa Library in Hawaii had! Later I became a huge fan of Shakespeare, Jane Austen, and Charles Dickens. Yes, I read Middlemarch and loved it. I can’t keep up with all the amazing books coming out today, but I do my darnedest. My preference is for books with a strong, fast moving story with powerful themes lying beneath the entertaining surface. I’m attracted to stories about underdogs, whether it’s Eleanor and Park or Buffy, the Vampire Slayer.
